You are considered a drug addict if you regularly take drugs and you experience unpleasant symptoms if you stop. Although being an addict implies drug dependence, it is possible to be dependent on a drug without being addicted.
Types of Drugs and Effects.
- Heroin - A drug that is produced through a chemical process; heroin is addictive because it produces an initial pleasurable effect. Heroin is a very popular drug and a lot of people have died because of it. The drug has many side effects such as nausea, dry mouth, lowered heart rate, respiratory arrest, etc. When a drug addict stops taking heroin the side effects can become much worse as the user enters into withdrawal also known as withdrawal syndrome.
- Cocaine - is a powerful central nervous system stimulant which is highly addictive because of its powerful euphoric and energetic effects. Many people claim that they use the drug because they get so much energy, they say that they get a Superman feeling. Cocaine is usually consumed by sniffing but can also be injected and smoked. Cocaine is sold on the streets as a white powder, the drug can be altered to remove other substances to make it more pure prior to consumption.
- Marijuana - is a leafy green plant that grows in the wild in different temperatures and tropics of the world. Marijuana is usually dried and smoked in combination with tobacco, the drug has many side effects and prices vary from $25 - $200 per one fourth of an ounce. There are no confirmed deaths caused directly by marijuana use, however it is a very addictive drug.
- Ecstasy - There are hundreds of thousands of ecstasy users in the USA and worldwide. The drug is very popular in the club scene and is taken in the form of a pill. The drug enters the body and goes directly to the brain where it takes control of the nervous system. This is a very dangerous drug and there have been many deaths because of it. One of the most common ways in which people have died from taking ecstacy is from overheating, or not drinking enough water whilst under the influence of an Ecstasy pill.
Helping your friend or family member with a drug addiction.
If you have a friend or family member who is trying to get out of an addiction then you need to contact a group or a Christian drug rehab center. Problems like overdoses and prescription abuse can cause death, addictions like cocaine, heroin, marijuana, methamphetamines, hallucinogens and other type of drugs are also very harmful to the body, drug treatment is out there and there are many programs that can help.
